What I got from the Guillermo Gomez- Pena article is a lot of Mexicans don't use the internet. Some Mexicans by choice and some not. The article goes more into depth on the types of Mexicans that do and don't use the internet and explanations for such. He also talks about him and his superhighway banditos which I did find amusing.
This article really doesn't work for me. You cant compare Mexicans with Americans. There's so many sub cultures that go along with each culture that there's endless comparisons and complications leading me to believe its almost a waste of time to do such. I used to live in Jacksonville, FL more people get shot to death in that city than there are days in the year... compare that to any city in the Pacific Northwest, it's a silly comparison because they are completely different sub cultures, and we even speak the same language! So diversifying the internet to appease both Mexicans, Americans and everyone else is simply impossible as well as unrealistic.
Not many Americans care about how much murder takes place in the South just like not many Americans care about how diverse the internet is; because its not their problem. I like how Guillermo pointed out that some Mexicans don't have as much of a want for the internet as Americans. I wish the tables were turned and America wasn't so hell bent on bigger, faster, sooner.

Ryan,
I would like to know why you can not compare Mexicans and Americans? In Nakamura's article as well as Kolko's they are trying to figure out if race should be addressed on the internet. What is your take on this? I am just interested in knowing how you feel?
I think that Guillermo pointing out the fact that not all Mexicans don't want the internet is a great point and one that should be explored. People just assume that if you don't have computers, internet, and other forms of technology it is b/c you can't afford it, which is a huge assumption that may not always be accurate. You raised some points that I may not have gotten from it.
Good job
Ryan,
I find your post about how Americans do not care how diverse the internet is (as compared to perhaps Gomez and Adam Banks) interesting. Do you think this is because the internet is predominately used by Americans and/or Americans are so self centered that we do not care about what other cultures think?
I totally agree with you that historically Americans can't want to get the newest, biggest, fastest whatevers before anyone else.
Having a computer and internet access without having the knowledge or skills of knowing how to use it and what it is used for would make having the technology pretty silly don't you think?
This is probably why Gomez makes the point, as you have, that comparing America and what we know and know regarding technology with third world countries seem mute.
I agree that it isn't fair to compare the Hispanic race to American's because there are so many sub cultures around the world that its hard to believe that you can put everyone into categories.
Ryan,
I think the part of this blog i found the most interesting was the fact that you lived in Jacksonville, FL and the different sub cultures there compared to here. I agree that you cannot compare our sub cultures and think that everything on the internet will work for every different culture.
